EMS - Faradic Current
For many years the medical profession has been aware of the therapeutic value of EMS Electro Muscle Stimulation also known as NMES Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation in helping to restore and re-educate muscles, which have been damaged and in the toning of flabby tissue therefore greatly improving body shape.
Olympic athletes and body builders have been utilising EMS to enhance their training for over 20 years increasing muscle tone, strength, endurance and also for relieving spasms and fluid retention.
In the 1960s, Soviet sport scientists applied EMS in the training of elite athletes, claiming 40% force gains and in the seventies Bruce Lee was one, Chinese martial art master who used EMS to tone muscles and for rehabilitation after injury.
How It Works
Many areas of the body are controlled by small neurological impulses from the brain.
The Bel Viso Body Bar’s computerised EMS Faradic Current Programmes imitate these impulses creating the required action to stimulate the motor points of the muscle where the pads are placed, encouraging a controlled involuntary contraction similar to normal exercise, for example abdominal crunches and squats.
The benefit of Electronic Muscle Stimulation is that you get a passive workout without risk of trauma or fatigue which is particularly beneficial for mums after child birth, the elderly and people with damaged muscles due to an injury.
For slimming
EMS increases body temperature, heart rate and metabolism, which promotes energy and fat absorption.
Consistent use of the muscles requires the burning of calories stimulating the bodies natural fat burning and toning processes.
The more the slimming machine is used, the more calories and therefore fat is burned away!
After years of study experts believe that a 30 – 45 minute session using electro muscle stimulation is equal to a 6 – 8 hour gym workout!
In sports training
EMS may be used as an addition to strength development (the same as weight training).
Professional athletes, physiotherapist, sports doctors, and chiropractors use EMS Electro Muscle Stimulation to supplement their regular workout routines or aid in the repair and recovery of muscles.
As a supplement to a routine of normal training EMS can develop strength in joints and muscles.
EMS may also be used to strengthen a weakness that is present as a result of a residual problem, or to improve the general aerobic and anaerobic fitness of an athlete.
For the elderly
EMS is used for strengthening and toning muscles to prevent injury.
For instance, it can strengthen the leg muscles to give stability and help prevent injury or recurring injuries to the knees and ankles.
For the elderly loss of balance can lead to falls and other injuries, which could be as serious as a broken hip.
EMS applied to the large hip, buttock and thigh muscles can reverse the onset of fragility, by regaining the tone and strength of these anti-gravity teams of muscles.
